Internship description:

This position will require the intern to assist the owner (Cindy Peaslee) in all aspects of tour and event planning including but not limited to:

• Planning and implementation of new tour packages

• Planning and implementation of public events ex. Fright Nights in Downtown Bryan, Mardi Gras, and Scavenger Hunts. These events range from annual to on-demand.

• Working with downtown merchants to coordinate facility availability and activities in advance and day of scheduled events

• Assisting visitors during downtown tours and events

• Coordination and implementation of marketing and promotional activities for Peaslee Creative

• This position requires a high amount of public interaction with downtown visitors, tour clients, and downtown merchants

 

Internship requirements:

• Ability to express thoughts with clarity and command

• Knowledge of and interest in local history or willingness to learn same is preferred

• Knowledge of event planning and implementation best practices

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, Power Point and web-based publication programs

• Ability to work on own when assigned tasks during events or tours

• Ability to prepare and implement an event timeline

• Ability to direct event/tour volunteers with assignments

While unpaid, this internship provides you with networking opportunities with the downtown merchants and you get to spend your time planning and working at really fun, exciting and unique events (like a haunted house!). 

 

Achievements:

This internship gave me the opportunity to develop my event planning skills and taught me the importance of paying attention to details, time management and networking. Also, since these events are designed to attract tourists to Downtown, the internship also gave me a real-world example of how crucial tourism and destination marketing are to a destination.
